Koh Phangan is an island paradise with over 20 beaches to choose from. It has a population of about 12,000 and is a designated eco-tourist area. 90% of the island is covered with virgin tropical forest. Unlike, its bigger and more famous neighbour, Koh Samui, the island has maintained its unspoiled natural beauty and relaxed pace of life.

Once a month Koh Phangan hosts the world famous Full Moon Party on the beach of Haad Rin Nok in the south of the island. The party brings many young people to the island for a few days.

Once the party goers move on, the island returns to its relaxed pace of life.

Far removed from the commercial beach of Haad Rin is the area of Thong Nai Pan in the north east of the island. Thong Nai Pan is a stunning double cove set in an ampitheatre of forest covered mountains.

The smaller beach to the north is called Thong Nai Pan Noi and the larger beach to the south is called Thong Nai Pan Yai. Both have palm -fringed white sand beaches. The two beaches are the best swimming beaches on the island and have become legends in traveller’s circles. Wikipedia has a section dedicated to the beaches which have been described elsewhere on the net as amongst the world’s top ten most beautiful beaches.

And when you visit it is easy to understand why the area has earned such accolades.

Thong Nai Pan is a place that once visited must be re-visited. Very few beaches in Thailand have such clear, warm and inviting waters. And few beaches in Thailand have maintained their original ambience of friendly Thai hospitality like Thong Nai Pan.
