Taxi information for Thong Nai Pan

All the resorts will organise taxis for those leaving Thong Nai Pan. Taxis leave at 10am and cost 200 thb. Star Huts also do a taxi service at 2pm. All taxis go to the main port town on Koh Phangan called Tongsala. The journey takes about 40 minutes but can take longer depending on how muddy the road is. Between Thong Nai Pan and Bantai the road is mostly unconcreted except for one steep hill. Although work is continually being done on the road it seems they are fighting a losing battle with the rains which are continually washing away the road. From Bantai to Tongsala it’s a smooth, flat, concreted road.

If you wish to travel at other times or to other destinations then you have to book a private taxi which costs anywhere between 800 and 1500 thb.

For the journey from Thongsala to Koh Phangan the prices vary. The taxis meet the boats arriving at the piers and if there are enough people going to Thong Nai Pan they charge the going rate of 150 thb. However, if there are only 1 or 2 people going then much higher prices are demanded. Sometimes a bit of arguing helps but generally taxi drivers are uninterested in lowering their original price. The only alternative is to wait for another boat and hope more people arrive going your way, or to start hitchhiking.

For those familiar with the road it is possible to rent a motorcycle from several places in Thong Nai Pan Noi and Yai. Rental for a day costs 250 thb. When you rent a bike you have to leave your passport as surety, so if you damage the bike in any way be prepared for a hefty fine to get your passport back. Don’t rent a motorbike from Again and Again on Thong Nai Pan Noi because he has a record of charging exorbitant prices for any damage to his motorbikes.

taxiRecently the Thong Tapan Resort on Thong Nai Pan Noi beach has started offering a free 1pm pick up from Tongsala for those customers staying at their resort.
